Clinical Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to treat conditions or change habits. Most of us are familiar with ‘stage hypnosis’ where volunteers from the audience are put into a trance before they are asked to do something ‘entertaining’. In contrast, ‘clinical hypnosis’ is used to induce a trance that relaxes the mind so that the hypnotherapist can encourage a person to accept and internalize positive, beneficial suggestions.
Trance is something we have all experienced. We daydream while we are fully conscious, often unaware what the teacher said or which route we have taken while driving home. You are awake but totally relaxed. This is a natural state that harnesses focused thought. You are totally safe and in control and you can stop the process at any time.
Clinical hypnotherapy can be used for a wide variety of conditions including, reducing anxiety and depression or building confidence and self-esteem at work or in a social setting. Hypnotherapy can also be effective in the treatment of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), for breaking addictions such as smoking or vaping and overcoming phobias such as a fear of flying.
I use a tried and tested clinical hypnosis technique known as Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. This method is based on a positive approach that focuses on the future to deliver practical, long-lasting solutions to address a wide range of conditions.
